Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned an ultra-modern, two-storey Ghana Police Shop at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday.

The shop will see the sale of police apparel and other accoutrements for the service.

Bawumia who is the Chairman of the Police Council said the shop will not replace the government’s obligations to the Service but will complement it.

"It is a dedicated shop where officers of the security services can purchase additional uniforms and other items to support what they are officially provided. Police officers outside Accra can purchase the items online and have them delivered at their stations.

The shop also stocks institutional souvenirs that come in handy during international exchange programmes," the Vice President said at the ceremony.

Bawumia stated the government has over the years demonstrated support to the security services especially the police to enable them to discharge their duties. This is evident with the supply of vehicles, motorbikes and other logistics to enhance police visibility, taking policing closer to the public. He applauded the police service for protecting lives and properties.

Dr Bawumia also used the occasion to urge the Police Service to discharge its duties diligently as the nation gears up for the elections.

Touching on the Police shop, the Vice President lauded the Police for establishing such an edifice to create a one-stop shop for all police uniforms and accoutrements.
