The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has said the planned nationwide strike starting Thursday, February 20, 2025, is on course.

In a statement signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, the Association emphasized that the strike will proceed as scheduled unless their concerns are addressed.

The planned strike is in protest against the continued stay of Samuel Adom Botchway at the Births and Deaths Registry, despite government assurances that he would be removed from office.

According to CLOGSAG, Mr. Botchway’s participation in the office’s budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on Monday, February 17, 2025, confirms that he remains in his role—contrary to government commitments.

The statement urged all members to hold themselves in readiness for the industrial action, reaffirming their stance on the issue.

Meanwhile, the government has defended its decision to appoint Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, stating that the appointment does not breach any legal provisions.

Addressing the issue, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu reaffirmed the administration’s position, stating that there is no legal violation in Mr. Botchway’s appointment. However, he noted that the government remains open to dialogue with CLOGSAG to resolve the impasse.
