The driver of a fuel tanker and his assistant escaped narrowly after the tanker exploded at a bus terminal in Damongo in the Savannah Region.

The incident on the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2021, would have escalated if not for the intervention of personnel of the Ghana Fire Service.

Eyewitnesses say before the explosion, the tyres and other parts of the vehicle caught fire while it was in motion.

The fuel tanker was on its way to discharge the fuel, reports indicate.

Firefighters are yet to officially establish the source of the fire.

In May this year, three people were killed and seven others injured when a fuel tanker exploded in a road crash.

The tanker loaded with diesel was traveling from Kumasi to Tepa.

Reports indicate the vehicle skidded off the road in a sharp bend at Onyina Nofo, a community in the Ashanti Region.

The tanker then exploded and burst into flames upon hitting the ground, resulting in deaths and injuries.
