Parliament on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, approved the 2022 budget estimates for the Transport and Railways Development Ministries.
The House unanimously approved a total sum of GH¢921,843,000, 00 for the services of the Ministry of Transport and its agencies for the year ending December 31, 2022.
Moving the motion to the plenary, Deputy Minister for Transport, and MP for Upper west Akim, Fredrick Obeng Adom, indicated that the ministry would be spending GH¢70, 298,000 for compensations, GH¢157,184,000 for goods and services and GH¢694,361,000 on assets.
For the Railways Development Ministry and its agencies for the year ending December 31, 2022, the House approved an amount of GH¢575,970,000.
Moving the motion on the floor, the Railway Development Minister, Mr John Peter Amewu broke down the budget as follows:
Compensations would amount to GH¢5,291,000
Goods and services - GH¢13,037,000
Capital expenditure - GH¢557, 642,000
These two ministries will be among the first to have their budget estimates for the next financial year approved.

The Special Budget Committee of Parliament suspended scheduled hearings to consider 2022 budget estimates for the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
Also on Tuesday, the Communications Committee of Parliament suspended the consideration of the 2022 budget estimates for the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
The Committee called off a scheduled hearing on the budget estimates for the EC because its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, failed to appear before the Committee to answer critical questions on the impasse at Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) area.
The Communications Committee of Parliament said the Communications Ministry has failed to provide Parliament with audited accounts of the National Communications Authority (NCA) and other agencies under its supervision in the last six years.
