The three-member ministerial committee set up to investigate the fatal incident at Ejura in the Ashanti Region has recommended sanctions against the military deployed to quell the disturbance that led to two deaths.

The committee wants the military establishment to review the actions of the Lt Martin Opoku-led soldiers “for the inappropriate use of force and apply appropriate actions”.

The committee also has recommended the removal of the MCE for the area, and the transfer of the District Police Commander of Ejura, DSP Kojo Hammond “first for his incompetence in handling the situation and for the fact that his relationship with the community seems to have been damaged beyond repair.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo in July 2021 directed the Interior Ministry, Ambrose Dery, to conduct a public inquiry following the killing of two persons and injuries to four others by soldiers during a protest.

The youth of Ejura had been protesting the killing of a popular social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, aka Kaaka.

Kaaka died on Monday, June 28, 2021, after he was attacked by unknown assailants while returning home from an event he attended in his neighbourhood area.
