Owners of Private Schools in the country appear unhappy with the Free Senior High School policy rolled out by the government earlier this week, as they say, no student has been processed for admission.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday launched one of his government’s major flagship program, to ensure majority of children of school going age access education at the first year without any cost to their parents.
The President said he is committed to ensuring the choice he makes is to invest in the country’s youth, relying on revenue from natural resources to fund it, while ensuring quality and sustainability.
“A well-trained, confident and contented teacher is essential in the delivery of quality education. If we are to succeed as a nation, and if we accept that education is central to national development, then it is clear that quality teacher training is vital to our nation’s development.â€

But the President Akufo-Addo’s optimism is not shared by everyone, especially Joseph Dzamesi, General Secretary of a group of private school owners, who insist the policy is pricing them out of potential students who could have been admitted to their schools.
Mr. Dzamesi, who said his group is not against the policy, said they want government to include them into the placement policy, labeling their schools “private†and parents told it is not free and will have to pay for tuition and related items.
