Ghana Immigration Service breaks silence on Shalimar Abbiusi's deportation

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has issued to statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the arrest and subsequent repatriation of Shalimar Abbuisi, spokesperson for The New Force, political group.

According to the GIS, Shalimar Abbuisi was repatriated on December 19, 2023, aboard Air Brussels Flight No. SN 319, back to her home country.

This was based on the revocation of her residence permit by the Comptroller-General, in accordance with Section 20 (2)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2000, Act 573.

Also, the GIS clarified that the Belgian national obtained a student permit through fraudulent misrepresentation.

In the statement dated December 19, the GIS said “Per the law, Ms Shalimar Abbiusi could not remain in Ghana and the Comptroller-General ordered her removal from the country.”

The GIS further cautioned all foreign nationals in the country to strictly adhere to the country's immigration laws, stating that any infrigment will lead to prosecution.
