Ghana’s tribe composition revealed

There are many tribes in Ghana with over 50 languages in the country, but which tribe really dominates in the country?

 

There have been many several debates about the tribes with the most people in Ghana and so to settle the score, here is the breakdown of the percentage of the tribes in the country.


 

1. Akan – 45.3%

The Akans, comprising of the Fantes, Ashantis, Akuapems, Akyems makes up the highest in the country according to statistics.

 

2. Mole-Dagbon  15.2%

Next to the Akans are the Mole-Dagbon, who comprises of Mamprusi, Mossi, Dagomba, Nanumba, and Gonja, with 15.2% of the population.

 

3. Ewe  – 11.7%

Ewes are next in line with 11.7% of the population

 

4. Ga-Dangme 7.3%

Ga-Dangmes are made up of the Krobos, Dangmes and Gas and they make up 7.3% of the whole population.

 

5. Guan – 4%

Guans cover almost all the country and this include Gonjas, Kyerepons, some parts of Brong Ahafo, Nzemas and they make up 4% of the population.

6. Gurma 3.6%

The Gurmas who are found up North make up 3.6% of the population

 

7. Grusi 2.6%

Grusis make up 2.6% of the population

 

8. Mande-Busanga 1%

Busangas make up the least in the population with 1%

 

9. other tribes 1.4%,

There are other tribes in the country who are actually not Ghanaians, they make up 1.4% of the population.

 

10. other 7.8%

Then we have other languages that are spoken by Ghanaians across the country, they make up 7.8% of the population in total.
