Ghana-South Africa commit to deepen relations

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, participated in the Ministerial meeting of the 2nd Session of the Bi-National Commission between the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Ghana, which was held in Pretoria, South Africa, on March 11, 2024.

In her remarks during the discussions, Ms Botchwey reiterated the importance of strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

She noted the need for cooperation in different areas, including trade and investment, security and defence, education, arts and culture and women empowerment.

She further acknowledged the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Governments of the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa, which will be the umbrella mechanism to monitor the implementation of all the Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements between the two countries.

She welcomed the finalisation and signing of five Memoranda of Understanding and urged both countries to work together to ensure that the MoUs are implemented for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

The Minister also held a meeting with her South African counterpart in the sidelines of the BNC to discuss issues of mutual interest to both Ghana and South Africa.
