Public Relations Officer(PRO) of Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe has said, government in the coming days will engage the encroachers at the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital to bring an end to the ongoing strike by workers of the facility.
Health workers at Pantang, today(Monday) began a sit down strike to express their displeasure over the encroachment of lands by private investors.
Reacting to the situation, Mr. Cudjoe said, the Ministry was informed about activities of private investors over a month ago and have initiated steps to tackle the situation.
According to him, the situation could be complicated because the so-called encroachers could be the rightful owners of the land and have legal documents to back their claims.
"We need to engage the owners of the land to come to a compromise. There are legal issues and we are managing it consciously to solve the problem, when somebody claims ownership of a land, it would take a gradual process to tackle the situation as the person would have documents to support his claim,"he said on Accra-based Citi FM.
That notwithstanding he said, it is absolutely wrong to build in front of a hospital and they would address that issue as soon as possible.
He stressed that, government would sit with the encroachers and "even if they own the land, find a common ground that would be convenient for everyone."
He assured the public that some people including children and the aged as well as emergencies are still being taken care of at the hospital, though reports suggested otherwise.
The hospital staff are demanding governments intervention after a court ruled against the facility in a land litigation that lasted five year.
