After the many gas explosions in the country, the National Petroleum Authority [NPA] with approval from Cabinet has introduced the Cylinder Re-circulation Model of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution as a way to solve the myriad of gas explosions in the country.
The Cylinder Re-circulation Model of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution forms part of eight other eight safety measures being implemented.
The Cylinder Re-circulation Model of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution model means that LPG Bottling Plants will be sited away from congested commercial and population centres and will procure, brand, maintain and fill empty cylinders to be distributed to consumers and households through retail outlets. Low-risk stations will be designated for the supply of gas to vehicles. This whole exercise must be completed within one year.
CEO of NPA Hassan Tampuli said the concentration of the policy is not on the gas explosions but rather the siting of the filling stations in the country.
He said it has become almost impossible to monitoring and inspection of the various filling stations in the country because their number is huge, 650 LPG stations and 3,700 liquid stations.
With the Cylinder Re-circulation Model of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution the most appropriate mechanisms will be adopted to monitor trucks and vessels that carry out the distributions in the country.
According to him, drivers and mates will be trained same as LPG installers across the country and other players along the supply chain.
The new arrangement with the LPG pant will have stationed people to monitor the distribution process and consumers will be required to purchase the LPG with an empty cylinder for a filled one.
