Founding President of the IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has scored high marks for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s handling of the government’s digitalisation drive.

Mr Cudjoe’s praise follows an address by the Vice President at Ashesi University on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, on Transforming an economy through digitalisation: The Ghana story.

"Bawumia is handling the government's digitalisation agenda with so much passion and focus. And there are great transformations no doubt…” he said.

He, however, urged the government to be transparent with procurement processes for acquiring some of the digital solutions.

At Ashesi University, the Vice President said the government’s digitisation strategy since 2017 has been to build a new system through digital transformation and not just to repair it.

“On coming into office, we moved quickly with the issuance of biometric national ID cards (The Ghanacard) to the population. The Ghana Card project was initiated by President Kufuor but abandoned for 8 years.

“The card has world-class features. It captures 10 fingerprints as well as the iris of individuals. It is also consistent with the ECOWAS standards and bears the ECOWAS logo. It is compatible with any reader which is compliant with EMV contactless communication protocol,” he said.

He also revealed that by the first quarter of 2022 the Ghana Card will be accepted and recognised globally as an e-passport.
