James Town bullion van robbery: ‘We will get them very, very soon’ – COP Kofi Boakye

Former Ashanti Region Police Commander, COP Kofi Boakye, has given the strongest indication that police are poised to apprehend the armed robbers who hit a van transporting cash to an unknown location last Monday, killing a policeman and a civilian.

“I want to emphasize to the nation that very, very, very soon all those involved in this bullion robbery and especially those who committed it, they will be arrested very soon,” COP Kofi Boakye, who is currently the Head of Research and Planning of the Ghana Police Service, said.

He made the comments on Friday, June 18, 2021, when 320 new recruits of the Service passed out in the Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi.

According to him, Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh has put innovative strategies in place to help combat incessant violent crimes across the country.

On Monday, June 14, 2021, the robbers attacked the bullion van at Adedenkpo, near James Town and shot a police officer on escort duty, Lance Corporal Emmanuel Osei, in the head killing him.

They also shot a hawker, a woman identified as Efia Badu, who was standing close to the scene of the incident.

The bullion van driver is on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

“They can run and run and run but they cannot hide” COP Kofi Boakye assured.

COP Kofi Boakye told urged the new recruits to start nosing around for information that will help in arresting Monday’s criminals.

“It is incumbent on all of us including you – the new recruits – to help us achieve this objective, starting from now and you have a duty of arresting these criminals who killed one of us.

“This is non-negotiable, and we cannot compromise on the need to arrest these criminals,” he said.
