The Ghana Police Service has picked up the main suspect believed to have shot a Police officer at the Kwabenya police post in Accra.

The suspect Kofi Shesie was arrested with five others by the Accra Police Command at Kasoa in the Central Region.

In a statement signed by Director General, Public Affairs ACP David Senanu Eklu, the arrest of the five brings the number of arrest in the Kwabenya incident to 11.

Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi was shot dead by armed robbers in an attempt to free their colleagues who were behind bars at the Kwabenya police post last week.

The jailbreak ended up freeing 7 suspects from the police cells leaving the Inspector dead in the process.

The deceased Police officer sustained gunshot wounds and died whilst receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital

ACP David Senanu Eklu in a radio interview after the arrest of the main suspect said the Police Service has put in place measures to make sure all suspects connected to the case are apprehended.

GHc15,000 bounty on the head of Kwabenya shooting suspects

The IGP David Appeatu-Asante in a news conference also announced a GHc15,000 bounty for any information leading to their arrest of the other four suspects who were freed from police custody by the robbers.

Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid commenting on the shooting of the police officer said the Police post at Kwabenya should not have been the appropriate cells to keep the suspects.

According to him, the Police post is not a police station and therefore lacks the necessary security measures to host these suspects.

Deputy Interior Minister Henry Quartey also added that the recent killing of police officers does not mean there is a break down the country’s security apparatus.
