The Public Relations agency for Uber Ghana has released a statement to deny reports that a man found brutally murdered at Feyiase in the Ashanti Region is an Uber driver.
According to JNPR, after checks, the reported name of the deceased person, Israel Agyei Manu, said to have been driving a white Toyota Vitz with registration GE 3170 – 21 is not registered with the ride hailing company.
“At Uber, the safety of all drivers is our main priority, from the information provided in the article such as the name of the driver, Uber’s incident response team looked into their records and found that there is no active driver by the name of Israel Agyei Manu,†Uber Ghana’s PR agency, JNPR, said in a quote published by GhanaWeb on Monday.
The vicious killing of the 33-year-old young man has caused panic among residents.
The body of Israel Agyei Manu was found at Feyiase in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region on Sunday, July 5, 2021.
He was found dead with his head severed and multiple machete wounds.
A mobile phone and wallet containing cash were also found.
Residents of the area say this is the first time they have witnessed such an incident.
They say they fear for their lives.
One family has already packed out of the area, following the incident.
The police say they are investigating the incident.
