The Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei-Mensah has revealed that the cause of death of 4 students of the Kumasi Academy Senior High School has been identified as meningitis. This has been identified after experts were asked by the Ghana Education Service to conduct an autopsy report on the bodies of the deceased who died in the school.

Earlier reports experts were tasked to come up with a full report on the cause of death by April 5, 2017.
Counsellors were also deployed to help students of the school cope with the trauma of the death of their colleagues as they are in their examinations period.

Addressing the media on Wednesday (5th April 2017), the minister said “there have been several explanations to account for the sad event but I want to assure you that an answer has been found to give meaning to the demise of the students. Through the collaborative effort of experts from the Ghana Health Services at the district, regional and national levels together with an experienced colleague at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the school of Medical Sciences, we can propose the cause of these deaths as meningitis".
