Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Rashid Pelpou has expressed disappointment in the lady at the centre of the Marwako case, Evelyn Boakye, for allowing an out of court settlement.
After back and forth in court for nearly five months, lawyers representing Evelyn, the complainant and Jihad Chabaan, the defendant, on Wednesday reached an agreement for the case to be settled out of court.
According to the MP, who was very vociferous when the case broke and demanded justice for the lady, the current development defeats his stance.
Speaking to Citi FM, he said, the current ruling has given the impression that some people could come into the country and commit serious crimes including personal attacks and go scot free.
"The event was supposed to be a test case to understand how eventually a foreigner who has committed such act of abusing a Ghanaian for no apparent reason would be dealt with in the eyes of the law. That would serve as a precedent to tell people that Ghana is a country governed by the rule of law and people cannot come and insult and abuse citizens and go free," he stated.
Mr Pelpuo said he was looking forward to seeing the case come to a certain conclusion where it would have been a reference point when people abuse each other in an independent country.
