A team of soldiers attached to Operation Calm Life taskforce has invaded a piece of land under litigation on the orders of one of the parties claiming ownership of land.

On Tuesday, November 30, 2021, the group of soldiers, who were acting on the orders of the Executive Chairman of African Concrete Products (ACP), Carl Richards, one of the two parties claiming ownership of the land, stormed the piece of land in breach of a court order.

Court documents sighted by Prime News show a ruling that favours Winfred Kumah Apawu of Brainsfield Limited – one of the parties in the land litigation – as owners of the parcel of land located at Pokuase, in the Greater Accra Region.

Already, the Court of Appeal has dismissed an injunction application brought by Mr Richards to stop Mr Kumah Apawu from further developing the parcel of land.

However, Mr Richards, who is believed to have friends in the military, organised the soldiers onto the land on Tuesday afternoon to threaten Mr Kumah Apawu’s workers on the disputed land.

This is not the first time soldiers attached with the Operation Calm Life team has been used by connected persons to carry out operations that do not fall within its mandate.

In January this year, one Abeku Adams Ekumfi shocked many Ghanaians when he posted a harrowing story on Facebook about how his friend was forced to give GH¢1,000 to members of Operation Calm Life while on his way home.

In descriptions similar to the rogue SARS police unit in Nigeria, the friend stated that his car was pulled over by heavily armed police personnel operating under the Operation Calm Life taskforce in a secluded area under the pretence of carrying out a search.

According to the friend who is said to be a fish merchant, one of the policemen scanned through his phone messages till he chanced on a chat he was having with a white client.

They then accused him of engaging in cybercrime.

He explained to the policeman that the white person was only a client who buys fish from him and nothing more.
The adamant policeman, only identified as Mawutor, realising his prey was cornered, asked him to pay GH¢2000 before he will be allowed to go home.

After a long negotiation, they settled on GH¢1000 which the fish merchant had to pay via momo because he did not have cash on him.

They then deleted the receipt of the transaction from his phone and asked him to go.

Operation Calm Life team is tasked with combating criminal activity in all parts of the country, however, it seems taskforce’s logistics, personnel and weapons are at the beck and call of the highest bidder.
