Police have quelled the latest rumours of a possible state-led clampdown on dissent and free speech with a statement to confirm the arrest of the Convener of #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Mr Barker-Vormawor’s arrest was first announced by one Felicity Nelson -- a media practitioner believed to be a member of the pressure group -- on Facebook.
That post said Barker-Vormawor was “whisked away by state officials” immediately he touched at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday.
In subsequent posts, she said Barker-Vormawor was "abducted".
Her posts have been shared many times, fueling the rumours of a state-led clampdown on free speech on social media.

However, in a statement Saturday, February 12, police said Barker-Vormawor was arrested by the Tema Regional Command for stating a clear intention to subvert the constitution.
Police said the alleged post “was to the effect that he will stage a coup himself if the E-Levy Bill is passed by Parliament.”
“The post contains a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the constitution of the Republic of Ghana,” police said.
