Police have said a near-fatal robbery attack on a cash-in-transit on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, makes it imperative for banks to heed the call for use of armoured bullion vans to transport money.
Yesterday’s attack happened at the Industrial Area in Accra police said, explaining that a police officer who was on duty nearby forcefully intervened to stop the robbery.
“Whiles the robbers were fleeing the scene, they fired indiscriminately into the crowd. Three people sustained various degrees of injuries and have been admitted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment,” police said in a statement.
Fatal attacks on cash-in-transit last year prompted police to call on banks and other financial institutions to use armoured bullion vans for such activities.

Following yesterday’s incident police said it has “become necessary to re- echo the Police Administration's call for all financial institutions in the country to resort to the use of such fit for purpose vehicles for their cash in transit activities.”
Police said they have intensified efforts to get the perpetrators arrested to face justice.
“We will surely get them,” police assured.
The Police Administration has commended the unnamed police officer whose intervention foiled the robbery incident.
