Former Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, SSNIT, Prof. Joshua Alabi has justified, the whopping $66 million spent on a malfunctioning Information Technology infrastructure - Operational Business Suite (OBS) last year.

The Board of SSNIT and the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) are currently investigating five officials for their alleged involvement in the acquisition of the software.

The project which was meant to provide customers with convenience in service delivery has failed to operate effectively raising issues about the procurement process.

But speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Prof. Alabi said though he took over after the contract had been signed, and had no reasons to doubt the efficiency of the project.

"At the time I took over, the contract answered all the necessary questions and I could not just go about abrogating contracts".

He added that, if there are issues with the contract, the software operators must be contacted to find the way forward.

"The reason the contract was awarded was justified but whether technically, they have done what they are supposed to do, I cannot say, since I am not a technical person", he stated.

He accused the government of witch hunting past officials and demanded the Akufo-Addo administration focuses on the promises made to Ghanaians instead of chasing people around because "at the end of four years, the government would be judged by what they said they would do and whether they have achieved them or not".
