Catholic Bishops in Ghana have issued a statement to demand swift and detailed action from the government over recent incidents of military brutalities.
In a press statement issued on Friday, July 2, 2021, the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) said the recent brutalities at Ejura and Wa are eroding confidence in the ability of security agencies to handle cases involving one of their own effectively and competently satisfactorily.
“We, therefore, call on the government, especially the President, to show true leadership by sanctioning all whose actions and inactions have resulted in the unfortunate happenings in recent times,†the statement signed by GCBC President, Most Rev Philip Naameh.
Earlier this week, military personnel deployed to Ejura in Ashanti Region, to quell the agitation of a group of protestors, fired into the crowd killing two civilians and injuring four others.

On Thursday, July 1, a viral video emerged showing military personnel launching a sporadic attack on civilians in Wa, the Upper West Region capital, allegedly over a missing phone.
In the video, they can be seen beating up people with what looked like a stick. Persons in military uniform can also be seen stamping on civilians who had taken cover in a ditch.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has vowed to punish the soldiers captured on the video brutalising the civilians.
In the GCBC statement, the Bishops commended the GAF for the swift response.
