Several students of the New Juaben Senior High School in the Eastern regional capital Koforidua are on admission at different hospitals in the city following a suspected incidence of food poisoning.

It is unclear what food triggered the incident but the students say many of them started feeling unwell on Friday.

School authorities are alleged to have taken no actions, asking them to pray, until the situation worsened.

The students had to be rushed to a nearby hospital, St. Joseph Hospital. All of them could not be admitted due to limited space, so the  rest were rushed to the Eastern regional government hospital.

“Some of the students were collapsing, others complained of severe stomach pains, about half of the female students in boarding were rushed to the hospital last night. We don’t actually know the cause but it is believed to be food contamination,” a student told Accra-based Starr FM.

The school authority is yet to officially comment on the situation.
