North and South Korea establish contact after a year of hostility

After a year of an increasing hostility, North Korea and South Korea have today established contact on a hotline that's been dormant for almost two years.

The Unification Ministry said North Korea phoned for a second time several hours later on the Panmunjom hotline, suggesting the two sides wrap up business for the day.

Price of eggs spark massive protests in Iran

Iran is being rocked by its biggest wave of protests in nearly a decade. Since December 28, tens of thousands of Iranians have taken to the streets in huge numbers of towns and cities to demand freedom from their theocratic government.

“It started with a protest over the price of eggs, believe it or not,” says Hussein Banai, a professor at Indiana University who studies Iran.

Zambian minister resigns over 'corruption' in Pres. Lungu's gov't

Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has resigned. In a long Facebook post, Kalaba denounced the ‘country’s path of insatiable greed and shame’ supposedly driven by the ruling party Patriotic Front (PF).

“We cannot proceed to manage national affairs with cold indifference when the levels of corruption are swelling and being perpetrated by those who are expected to be the solution,” Kalaba said in a Facebook post late on Tuesday.

Equatorial Guinea confirms 'failed' coup against the President

French President Macron wants new law to fight 'fake news'

President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday he would overhaul French media legislation this year to fight the "fake news" spread on social media, which he said threatened liberal democracies.

Since he was elected last year, Macron has criticised Russian media, in particular, openly accusing TV channel RT of sowing disinformation about him via its website and social media during the presidential election.
