UEW labour impasse: Police clash with students, 5 injured

The Ghana Police Service has clashed with some students of the University of Education, Winneba-UEW as their protest for the reinstatement of some sacked lecturers enters day 3.

The police have fired warning shots to in an attempt to disperse demonstrating students of the University of Education, Winneba.

The students who are demonstrating at the University’s north campus over what they say are the unjustified dismissal of a number of lecturers supervising students project work by the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni, have caused some destruction at the Junior Common Room and smashed the windscreen of the Students Representative Council bus.

They have also destroyed a notice board.

According to grahpiconline about five female students have been rushed to the hospital with injuries. The Governing Council of the School is expected to brief the media tomorrow March 15 to explain the emerging issues on campus.

A similar event was witnessed on the campus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where students demonstrated about what they described as abuse from management which led to the destruction of school properties and subsequent closure of the school.

From the recent turnout of the event at UEW the school may be also closed done for an amicable solution to these issues.
