Unemployed graduate teachers in the country will today Tuesday, August 8 march through the principal street of Accra to protest government’s failure to provide jobs for them.
Groups comprising the Assembly of University Trained Teachers of Ghana, Unemployed Education Teachers Alliance and Unemployed Graduate Teachers Association, are lamenting the lack of jobs for its members since 2011 despite several engagements with government for their issue to be addressed.
National secretary of the unemployed graduate teachers, Stephen Powas in an interview on ClassFm said today’s demonstration has become necessary given the harsh economic realities facing their members.

According to the group, they will present a petition to the Minister of Education after marching through the principal streets of Accra.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo has hinted that the civil service is full to capacity and government may possibly have to lay off some civil servants.
Speaking at Ghana Economic Forum yesterday the Senior Minister said due to the International Monitory Fund (IMF) program government may have to rationalise and downsize the public sector to meet some aspects of the deal, and this will make it difficult to in the short term, absorb substantial portions of fresh graduates.
He however, added the health and education sectors will be excluded from the layoffs.
