The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Wontumi Radio/TV presenter, over the publication of false news.
He was arrested today, November 23, 2024.
He is currently in police custody and will later be put before the court for him to face justice, a police statement said.
The Ghana Police Service has today, November 23, 2024, arrested suspect Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, for offences including publication of false news contrary to Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and the case will be presented before the court for him to face justice,” the police wrote.
This arrest follows the circulation of a video on social media, which shows Asiedu at the studios of Wontumi FM in Kumasi “falsely” urging the public to vote for presidential candidates on separate dates during the upcoming December 2024 elections.
According to the police, such misinformation could disrupt public peace and urged the media to exercise responsibility in their reporting.
They warned that spreading false news could seriously affect public order before, during, and after the elections.
The police earlier invited the presenter over the comments he made.
