Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Setor Dumelo, has encouraged voters not to reject monetary inducements from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of Saturday's elections.

However, after receiving the items, Dumelo also called on the people to vote against the NPP.

Speaking at the NDC's final campaign rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, on Thursday, December 5, he said: "Come with your family, friends, and everyone in your community to vote for the NDC and let’s send the elephant back into the bush."

He further stated, "Ayawaso is coming under the NDC on December 7, Dome Kwanenya is coming under the NDC on December 7, and Greater Accra will be swept by the NDC. When they offer you money, take it. When they bring rice, take it. When they bring salt, take it. Take everything, but vote against them, because on December 7, we are resetting Ghana in the right direction."

His remark follows controversy during the December 2 special voting exercise, where the incumbent MP and NPP candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, distributed packs of rice to voters at the Legon Police Station polling centre.

The incident has drawn widespread criticism from the public and stakeholders, with Dumelo lodging a formal complaint with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
