The campaign team of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, refuted allegations of amassing funds to influence delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2023
A video circulating on social media shows some unidentified persons stockpiling money at an unidentified location.
The video comes with a caption alleging that the cash is meant to be distributed to delegates ahead of the primaries to influence them to vote for Dr. Bawmumia, one of the NPP’s flagbearer hopefuls.
However, Gideon Boako, the Spokesperson to the Vice President in a statement clarified that, “This is malicious propaganda. This video is an old video that has been in circulation since 2020, in the lead-up to the 2020 elections. It is so unfortunate that this old video has been adopted by opponents of Dr. Bawumia, who have maliciously captioned it and circulated it widely. This malicious propaganda should be treated with the greatest contempt”.
The NPP will on Saturday, August 26 select five aspirants out of ten for the November 4 presidential primary.
So far, 10 persons have filed nominations and passed vetting for Saturday’s exercise.
