Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has urged supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stay focused and have in mind the agenda of ‘Breaking the 8’ in the 2024 general election.
Dr. Bawumia further advised the members of the NPP not to be distracted by the current happenings in the party.
He underscored that Alan Kyerematen’s resignation and other happenings within the NPP should not divert their attention from rallying support for the party to win the 2024 general election.
The presidential aspirant shared his message while addressing party supporters during his visit to some voter registration centres in the Eastern Region.
“Don’t have any doubts in your mind, we will have to work hard but it is possible to break the eight. We are going to break the eight and I will need more of your efforts. Let us keep focus as a party, don’t be distracted by events, and stay focused on the main task which is breaking the eight”.
“Let nobody distract you, we are going to win just focus on breaking the eight in 2024,” Dr. Bawumia added.
Alan Kyerematen, a stalwart of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP), announced his resignation from his mother party at a recent press conference.
It will be recalled that Alan Kyerematen withdrew from the NPP presidential race after the Super Delegates’ Congress held in August 2023 to trim the number of aspirants to five, citing unfair treatment and favouritism.
Meanwhile, the election committee of the NPP has slated the presidential primaries to November 4, 2023.
The four flagbearer aspirants participating in the presidential primaries are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimo.
