Former presidential hopeful, Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy holds although many contend his allegiance ought to lie with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) first, he puts country first before party.

“Some people think I should worship the flag bearer, I don’t worship any human being, I worship God … people want you to applaud everything he Nana Akufo-Addo does and criticise nothing he does, but that’s not me.”

Dr. Kennedy in his latest writing found it disingenuous on the part of NPP functionaries including Nii Ayikoi Otoo, Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea and former Zebilla MP John Ndebugre, who castigated President Mahama for granting freedom to the ‘Montie 3’ on compassionate grounds while Rawlings, Kufuor and Mills all utilised the power given them in the constitution.

For those who question why he goes hard on his party, Dr Kennedy noted: “I have said a lot of positive things about the NPP. When people said Nana Addo was too old, I defended him, it is on record. When they said Danquah was a traitor, I defended him, it’s on record [even] when his own party was silent.

“I attacked President Mahama for corruption, I’ve attacked him for going to make comments that were derogatory, … I’ve attacked him for asking northerners to vote for him, all these things I’m saying are on the record, so I do not see why anybody should doubt where my bona fides are, but their confusion is stemmed from the fact that while many of them think: ‘it is my party first,’ I think: ‘it is my country first’. I am always going to put my country first regardless of what the issues are and I am also going to call it as I see it.”

Dr Kennedy shared these thoughts with Class FM’s Moro Awudu on his ‘Inside Politics’ show on August 25.
