The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused President John Mahama and his younger brother Ibrahim Mahama of trying to bribe its Northern regional chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu to turn against its presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In a press conference at the party's headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, spokesperson of Mr Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid alleged President Mahama and his brother, in a meeting with their chairman on October 28, offered to pay him GH¢3.3 million if he resigned from the NPP to make up stories to assassinate Akufo-Addo's character and was given GH¢500,000 and a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle with registration number GS 687-16 upfront as initial commitment.
Mr Hamid also claimed that the Mahamas further promised to pay Mr. Naabu another GH¢ 2.5 million, the sum which he is owed by the government after he executed a contract, if he carried out his end of the bargain.Â
According to him, the key plan of the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) campaign is to use the perceived disunity in the NPP but it won't work.
He, therefore, warned that "any member of NPP who's taking money from NDC should stop because you're working against yourself".Â
