All is set for the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South Constituency today, Sunday July 14, 2024.
The primary has become necessary after four-time Member of Parliament Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh was nominated by the ruling party’s flagbearer, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate.

At the Saint Louis Training College, approximately 570 delegates comprising of 537 polling station executives from 107 polling stations, 6 electoral area coordinators, 5 council of elders, 5 patrons and 17 constituency executives will vote at a special delegates conference.
An overwhelming 85.5% endorsement from the National Council of the party, confirmed NAPO which made the July 9 outdooring at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi possible.

Since NAPO’s exit, four persons were cleared by the vetting committee led by Asokwa lawmaker and Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei to contest in Sunday’s primary.

As appeared on the ballot paper; Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, a chartered accountant and manager, institutional reporting at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and brother of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh hopes to retain the ticket and perhaps the seat in the Apagya Royal House.
The 51-year-old is also the Constituency Financial Secretary. He is first on the ballot.

Second on the ballot is Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s personal legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. The legal advisor to the Ghana Education Trust Fund, has served in various capacity in the NPP, from polling station to the constituency level.
Latest poll by Professor Smart Sarpong puts him ahead of all three other candidates. He comes in to break the 28-year record held by the Apagya Royal House as the holder of the constituency.
Nana Akwasi Coker Gyambibi is also a royal from the Manhyia Palace, the Kotoko Administrator hopes to break the jinx.
Fourth on the ballot is James Owusu Boakye, the youngest among the candidates. The 36-year-old is an Assembly member for Manhyia proper.
