The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has settled on Sunday, September 8, 2024 as the day to re-run the Walewale parliamentary primary following the annulment of the results by the High Court in Tamale.

On Monday, the Tamale High Court annulled the NPP Walewale Constituency parliamentary primary results.

The court presided over Justice Richard Kogjawah therefore ordered a re-run of the primary.

The court held that the election was flawed with irregularities, impersonation and over voting.

Following the court order, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced Sunday, September 8, 2024, to conduct the primary.

Mr. Kodua in statement announced an approved timetable for the rerunning of the primary.

According to the statement, the party will open and close nomination on Tuesday, September 3 and Thursday September 5, 2024, respectively.

An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate (APC) shall obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 in a banker’s draft payable to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.

To successfully file the nomination, an aspirant shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35, 000.00) in Bankers Draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.

The statement added that Women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees.

“This means they must pay a non-refundable filing fee of seventeen thousand and five hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 17,500.00). To ensure clarity, we define a youth as an individual between the ages of 18 and 40.”

The General Secretary however noted that those who participated in the general parliamentary primary election and paid the filing fees are not required to pay again.
