The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that officers of the Ghana Police Service questioned the District Electoral Officer (DEO) of Afadjato South in the Volta Region for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without a police escort.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 5, and the police have since taken custody of the items.

According to the EC, the policy mandates that all election materials be transported in official vehicles with a police escort when necessary. The Commission has since assured the public that it will conduct its own internal investigations while cooperating with the police in their inquiries.

Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, in a statement to the media noted that although the officer breached the Commission’s policy, this action will not compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency.
