Former Ghana international Abukari Damba has entreated corporate bodies to support the Ghana Football Awards to help football development in the country.

Abukari Damba aired his views after the maiden edition of the Ghana Football Awards which took place yesterday night, Sunday, 8 July 2018 at the Marriot Hotel in Accra.

Abukari Damba started by expressing how excited he was with regards to the Ghana Football Awards and his hopes.

He stated " I must admit that I'm overly impressed and excited about what has happened today. This is a novelty."

"We are the people who belong to the football family. We are ex-football players and we are very happy to see that our current football players are celebrated.

He continued,"These are the type of occasions that we need to motivate our up and young coming players, so I think it is a wonderful exercise but what I hope for is that it should be a continuous process, it should become better and better and better.

"I'm also hoping we will have a lot of corporate institutions coming on board to support this noble course, and I think it will help Ghana football grow."

The former goalkeeper of the black stars also stated reasons why Coach Yusif Abubakar, who won the Coach of the year, deserves the accolade.

" It is a well-deserved award, looking at the work he has done locally, it is not just about the club but about the players, he has been able to develop and he's been able to get his team to play in Africa and of course he performs creditably well and I think this is a coach who really deserves what he got.
