Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has been released from camp after aggravating an injury during training on the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.

Opoku returned to Turkey for further medical assessments as he begins his recovery.

The English-born centre-back, who did not feature in the recent game against Angola in Kumasi, will also miss the upcoming match against Niger in Morocco.

He is the second player to withdraw from the squad, following Joseph Paintsil, who was unable to travel due to passport issues.

In a statement, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) explained: "The player reported to the medical team with deep-seated pain in his left gluteal muscles, and further examination confirmed the injury was aggravated by the poor condition of the pitch in Kumasi."

Meanwhile, the Black Stars arrived in Morocco early on Saturday and are set to hold a training session later in the day in preparation for their match against Niger.

The team will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Angola as they face Niger at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
