Organizers of the annual Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) are set to launch the festival in the United States this August 2024.
The launch will outline plans to host mini-festivals in multiple cities across the US and other countries ahead of the 2025 festival in Ghana.
The ABF, which brings together basketball teams from different countries to compete, showcases fashion brands, and features musical performances, aims to promote cultural exchange and foster international unity through sports and entertainment.
The Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is the brainchild of RITE Sports, a Ghanaian sports marketing firm led by Yaw Sakyi Afari. Afari is renowned for changing the basketball narrative in Ghana through various programs, including the national High Schools competition dubbed Sprite Ball Championship, UPAC Basketball Championship for tertiary institutions, and NBA Africa partnered clinics led by NBA players. The ABF was held in 2019, 2022, and 2023, featuring basketball teams from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, the USA, and France. It also included runway shows by Ghanaian fashion brands and top music performances by some of the finest artists from Ghana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) in the US this August 2024. We will outline the roadshow for the 2025 festival, which will kick off in the United States and make stops in a few countries before culminating in the grand finale in Ghana. The launch will bring together sports investors, influencers, enthusiasts, fashion brands, and music industry players. The ABF will engage diverse audiences, showcasing the rich and vibrant country traditions through the dynamic blend of basketball, fashion, and music on a global scale,” said Yaw Sakyi Afari.
As the festival prepares to launch in the US, anticipation is high among basketball fans, fashion brands, cultural enthusiasts, and communities across the United States.
The ABF promises to be a celebration of athletic excellence and cultural richness, creating lasting memories and forging new connections. This event will become an annual tradition, continuing to grow and evolve in the years to come.
The 2024 ABF will be held from October 24-27 at the University of Ghana Basketball Court in Accra. This year’s festival opens with a Sports, Innovation, and Entertainment Summit, aiming to explore the intersections of sports, technology, and entertainment. It will provide a platform for thought leaders, innovators, and industry professionals to discuss trends, share insights, and foster collaborations. Key topics will include the impact of technology on sports performance, the role of entertainment in sports marketing, and innovative approaches to fan engagement.
In a world often divided by differences, the Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) stands as a testament to the power of sports and culture to unite people, celebrate diversity, and inspire future generations.
