Egyptian giants Al Ahly have sacked Patrice Carteron as head coach following their CAF Champions League loss to Esperance earlier this month.

The French tactician has been relieved of his duties after Al Ahly lost the CAF Champions League second leg loss to Esperance of Tunisia. They lost the finals despite a 3-0 home in the first leg.

On the domestic front, the Cairo team fell to a 1-1 draw against Al Wasland and were thus knocked out of the Arab Club Championship as they drew 2-2 at home before.

Carteron replaced Hossam el-Badry in June as the manager and his debut career with the Reds saw them humiliated by the Tunisians at the ultimate stage of Africa’s premier competition.

He won 12 games, drew five and lost three in his 21 games in charge. Mohamed Youssef, Carteron’s assistant will be in charge of the team on the interim basis.

Youssef is not new in management as he led them to a Champions League triumph in 2013 when they beat Orlando Pirates from South Africa. He also won the CAF Super Cup.

According to media reports, Conditioning coach Michael Linderman has also parted ways with the club. Sayed Abdel-Hafiz will return to Ahly as the new director of football, as the club has announced.
