Borussia Dortmund have sacked their cup-winning coach Thomas Tuchel, according to reports in Germany.

The 43-year-old, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp at Signal Iduna Park, only led his team to German Cup glory last weekend.

But his tenure has been cut abruptly short after reports of a strained relationship with the club's board,Bild have claimed.

Dortmund declined to comment when approached on Tuesday.

A Twitter account under Tuchel's name, which was only set up on Tuesday but is understood to belong to the German coach, confirmed the news.

Two posts read:  'I am grateful for two beautiful, eventful and exciting years. Too bad that it does not go on.

'Thanks to the fans, to the team, to the staff and to all who supported us. All the best wishes @BVB. TT'.

Bild claim Tuchel's compensation package could cost Dortmund around £2.5million.

After taking on the top job in July 2015, Tuchel went on to become one of the best coaches in Dortmund's history, averaging more than two points per Bundesliga game.

He won 69 of his 107 matches in charge, finishing second behind Bayern Munich in his first term and third this season.

On Saturday, he guided his team to their first major silverware in five years with a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, behind the scenes a rift was reportedly growing between Tuchel and the club's board.

He was unhappy at losing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels last summer and his relationship with Hans-Joachim Watzke went downhill from there.

Tuchel, it is claimed, also clashed with head scout Sven Mislintat and by the turn of the year his future had become uncertain.

And there were reports, too, of discord between the manager and a handful of his players - illustrated by the absence of a  fully-fit Nuri Sahin from the cup final squad last weekend.

Dortmund will now begin the search for Tuchel's successor, with Lucien Favre of Nice already being linked with the job.
