AshantiGold defender Eric Donkor has leapt to the defence of underfire teammate Richard Osei Agyemang following his performance in their 3-2 victory over RS Berkane over the weekend.

Agyemang was the subject of loads of criticism following his below power performance which led to him being substituted in the second half.

However, Eric Donkor, who was on target for the Miners in their win has come to the defence of the midfielder, saying that he just had a bad day at the office.

“Mistakes happens in football, I wouldn’t feel okay if I were to be in his Patrick Osei Agyeman’s shoes now, but we are a team.

“We win together and lose together so we just encouraged ourselves in the dressing room and you could see the determination in the eyes of the players”.

“We are together in this so we need to fight as a team, Patrick Osei Agyemang has been fantastic for Ashgold throughout his stay with Ashgold so one bad game doesn’t make him a bad player.

“I will urge him to cheer up, concentrate because we are with him in this”

The defender who played through is set to undergo further examination to ascertain the extent of the damage.

AshantiGold will engage Asokwa Deportivo in a friendly on Saturday, September 21 before wrapping up their training camp ahead of their trip to Morocco next week.

They will need to avoid defeat to advance to the next phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.
