The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to retain Otto Addo as the head coach of the Black Stars, despite the team’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2025.
However, Fatau Dauda, and assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Lauman will probably be fired as part of the GFA’s intentions to restructure Addo’s backroom staff.
The decision was confirmed by GFA Executive Council member and Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey.
The Black Stars missed the tournament for the first time in 20 years under Addo, who oversaw six games in the AFCON qualifiers without recording a single victory.
“We think the GFA has made its decision already,” Abbey stated on Original FM. “The GFA is keeping Otto Addo. Immediately, it’s about the World Cup qualifiers that start in March, and to ensure that the poor trend of results that led to non-qualification for AFCON, we would be able to change course and put the Black Stars back on the winning path.”
Addo will continue his three-year contract with a two-year extension option. Addo took over as coach in early 2024 following Ghana’s dismal 2023 AFCON campaign in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars will play again in March when they play in 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar.
