New AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho claims he is a 'victim' of his own success saying 'what is a disaster for me someone has never done in their life.'

Mourinho sarcastically referred to his two-and-a-half years at Manchester United, where he led the club to League Cup and Europa League triumphs, as a 'disaster' and lamented Tottenham's decision to sack him six days before this year's League Cup final.

"I am a victim of how people look at me," Mourinho said at his press conference unveiling. "At Manchester, three titles (United also won the Community Shield) and it was a disaster. At Tottenham, they didn't keep me for the final and, for me, a disaster. What is a disaster for me is a success for others."

"The criticisms? I have nothing to answer. My last three clubs. Scudetto (title) with Chelsea, three cups with United, a final with Tottenham. What for me is a disaster someone has never done in their life. That's how it is. It's my fault.

"I will work 24 hours, except for a few hours to rest. I will do everything to defend my players and my club, I will not look for problems. I want to have fun and I think we can all have fun."

Mourinho could also not resist a dig at his old adversary Antonio Conte, who presided over Inter Milan's first title in 11 years last season before leaving the club.

Inter's previous Scudetto was with Mourinho as coach in 2010, when they completed a treble with a first European Cup since 1965 under Helenio Herrera.

Roma have not won any silverware since 2008 and Mourinho stressed he could not be compared to Nils Liedholm or Fabio Capello, the last two coaches when Roma were Italian champions.

“In this club, we talk about Liedholm and Capello and they are not comparable to anyone," Mourinho added. "In Inter, no one can be compared to me or Herrera."

Mourinho and Conte were involved in several spats when they were managing in England, with the former United manager reminding Conte he was 'suspended for match-fixing'.

Conte received a four-month suspension when he was Juventus coach in 2012 for failing to report match-fixing at his previous club Siena.
