The National Sports Authority (NSA) has informed the GFA of their plans to close down the Cape Coast Stadium to enable exterior and beautification works ahead of this year's Independence day commemoration on March 6.

The Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to lock horns in the playoff round of the African qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The first leg of what will be a two-legged encounter is scheduled to be staged in Ghana in late March. The GFA after last week's draw announced that Ghana will be hosting rivals Super Eagles at the Cape Coast Stadium.

But, it seems the upcoming clash will not be played at the Cape Coast following a release by the NSA.

This is because the government plans on using the venue in March for this year's Independence Anniversary Celebration.

In a statement signed by NSA director Professor Twumasi, it asked the GFA to resort to either the Accra Sports Stadium ot the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the said match.

“By this letter, the Ghana Football Association is accordingly informed of this decision and advised to resort to other venues preferably Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium respectively for the March, 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff qualifier between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria”.
