Former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight titlist, Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey has played down reports that he is a drug addict.

This comes on the back of a viral picture where the looks of the former champions have changed.

In the said picture Bazooka can be seen spotting a gold chain blue basketball jersey and wearing a broad smile which shows some of his gold-studded teeth. His hair is grown and has some bushy facial hairs as well. This left some suggestions on social media that he had financial issues and was also indulging in drugs.

However, the 51-year-old who retired 27-years ago has refuted the drug claims.

“No I don’t do that, and I will never do that.”

“I’m not a drug addict,” he said in a television interview with Metro TV.

Ike Quartey said he was concentrating on his businesses and was committed to building a dream hospital for the nation.

“I am trying to do something for the nation and now look at what you are trying to do to my name.”

The Bukom-born boxer represented Ghana at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and went on to achieve an amazing career.

Quartey retired on 42 fights, impressively winning 37 times – 31 of which were by way of knock out – four losses and one draw.

The 51-year-old has, however, lived a quiet life away from the media since hanging his gloves in the mid-2000s.
