An innovator and lecturer at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, Dr Mark Amoo Boateng is seeking a $300,000 grant to enable him to develop a program to monitor the country’s ocean systems.
Dr. Boateng, a civil engineer, has a number of innovations to his credit including an electronic turbine for generating electricity.
He is currently the only African semi-finalist in the ongoing 7 million dollars Shell Ocean Discovery XPrize which could fetch him US$ 4 million if he emerges the overall winner.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, Dr Boateng highlighted some of his innovations including developing world’s fastest optimization algorithm, as well as a UV [ultraviolet] light technology that heals wounds.
Dr. Boateng, a civil engineer, has also developed a system to turn starch into plastics.
