Russia has dismissed claims that it used adverts on Facebook Inc in an effort to influence the 2016 U.S. Presidential election.

The development follows an earlier proposal by U.S. lawmakers urging the Federal Election Commission to demand for full disclosure or transparency for social media advertising after some Russian organizations purchased political adverts during and after the 2016 election.

Speaking to the media on Friday - Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov said: “We do not know ... how to place an advert on Facebook. We have never done this, and the Russian side has never been involved in it”.

Following the emergence of, Donald Trump as winner of 2016 US Presidential election there have been growing controversy that Russia interfered with the polls.
