International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine observed in Ghana

The Palestinian Embassy in Ghana has observed the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine with a call on international community to remain committed to Palestine and Israel in their negotiations for peace.

The United Nations (UN) on November 29th every year celebrate the day in expressing the stands of the free world with the People of Palestine in their national struggle towards the achievement of freedom and independence.

The celebration which seeks to remember Palestinians for International protection and the necessity for continuing the peace process between them and Israel was attended by the members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and the media.

In Ghana, the 2017 celebration is categorized into three namely, a press conference on November 30, a Concert on December 1 and Football gala games between Palestinians in Ghana and some Ghanaian local teams.

Dr Jubrael Alshomali, the Deputy Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana addressing a press conference in Accra stressed on the need to address the remote causes of conflict and empower institutions for conflict resolution.

He said the UN in supporting the work of governments to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity, there was the need to strengthen the rule of law and promote human rights, adding that, this year the number of demolitions of Palestine houses and other structures by Israeli forces had reduced, compared to 2016.

 “Gaza remains a humanitarian emergency with 2 million Palestinians struggling with crumbling infrastructure and a paralysed economy and tens of thousands still displaced awaiting reconstruction of homes destroyed by conflict,” he said.

Dr Alshomali said there were 7,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons with 350 of them being children and 240 women and that there can be peace Palestinians were allowed to establish an Independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its Capital.

He thanked the government and the people of Ghana for their support to Palestine over the years which had improved historic ties between the two countries.
