Reggae superstar, Rocky Dawuni has revealed that the late legendary highlife musician Nana Ampadu was his first mentor prior to Fella Kuti and Bob Marley.
Speaking to Kojo Mensah on the Asaase Breakfast Show, after his second nomination for the Grammy Awards, Rocky Dawuni said, “You know the thing is that people ask me a lot and I will say that Nana Ampadu is actually one of my first important influences, the first and important influence.”
He said Nana Ampadu was an amazing artiste and a great storyteller.
"I was a little kid and before I even discovered Fella and Bob Marley, I had Nana Ampadu," he said.
He added: “so if they are talking about the original, original, original person, I will say that Nana Ampadu is the guy.”

Rocky Dawuni has grabbed a nomination in the Best Global Music Album for his 2020 released album Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1.
He was nominated alongside Wizkid from Nigerian who got into the category with his ‘Made In Lagos’ album.
Others in the Global Album Music category are Daniel Ho & Friends, Angelique Kidjo, Femi Kuti and Made Kuti.
In 2015, the Ghanaian reggae artiste was nominated for the Grammys for his sixth studio album titled ‘Branches of The Same Tree’ in the category of Best Reggae Album.
The nomination made Rocky Dawuni, the first Ghanaian to be nominated for Grammys.
Also, Stonebwoy has bagged a Grammy nomination for his three features in the Best Reggae Album category.
