The Ashanti regional police command has deployed armed policemen and military officers to Kumawu Bodomase to maintain law and order in a renewed chieftaincy clashes between Barimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua II  self-acclaimed paramount chief of Kumawu and Kumawu Queen Mother Nana Serwaa Ampomaa.

The clashes begun at the funeral of the late Kumawu Akyempenghene Nana Okyere Krampah’s burial rites, after a queen mother who belongs to a faction of Barimah Tweneboah Kodua V the current Paramount Chief of Kumawu allegedly ordered police to stop Barimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua II from attending the funeral in his capacity as Kumawuhene.

But Barimah Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua II’s supporters forcibly resisted the police attempt to stop them from attending the funeral.

Ultimate news’ Isaac Bediako reported that this compelled the police to fire warning shots and teargas to disperse the angry followers of the self-acclaimed Paramount Chief which ended up in a gun battle between the followers and the police injuring five policemen.

The five police officers and other residents who sustained bullet wounds are receiving medical treatment at the Juaben government hospital.

The Kumawu Chieftaincy litigation matter ended after Barimah Tweneboah Koduah V swore an oath to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last year.
